HUBUNGAN BODY IMAGE DAN SELF ESTEEM DENGAN KECEMASAN PADA REMAJA DI SMA NEGERI 5 PALU

Adolescence is a developmental stage characterized by physical and psychological changes that may influence self perception. Negative body image and low self-esteem have the potential to increase anxiety among adolescents. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between body image and self-esteem with anxiety levels among adolescents at SMA Negeri 5 Palu. This study employed a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 86 students from grades XI and XII selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using the MBSRQ-AS questionnaire to measure body image, a self-esteem scale, and the Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HARS). Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents had negative body image (73.3%), moderate self-esteem (52.3%), and moderate levels of anxiety (64%). Statistical analysis indicated significant relationships between body image and anxiety (p < 0.05), as well as between self-esteem and anxiety (p < 0.05) among adolescents at SMA Negeri 5 Palu. In conclusion, body image and self-esteem are significantly associated with anxiety levels among adolescents at SMA Negeri 5 Palu. Efforts to improve positive body image and self-esteem are necessary as strategies to reduce anxiety and enhance adolescents’ mental health.
