Abstract

Hospitalization is an experience that can potentially cause anxiety in preschool children due to an unfamiliar environment, separation from parents, and medical procedures perceived as frightening. Anxiety that is not properly managed may hinder the care process and negatively affect the child’s psychological condition. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of animated video distraction therapy on anxiety levels in hospitalized preschool children at Madani Regional General Hospital, Central Sulawesi Province. This study employed a case study approach through the implementation of nursing care for preschool children experiencing anxiety during hospitalization. The nursing care process included assessment, establishment of the nursing diagnosis of anxiety, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The main intervention was distraction therapy using animated videos tailored to the child’s age and interests. Anxiety levels were evaluated through behavioral observation before and after the intervention. The results showed a reduction in anxiety levels after the provision of animated video distraction therapy, as indicated by calmer behavior, increased cooperation, and better adaptation to the hospital environment. It can be concluded that animated videos are effective as a distraction therapy in reducing anxiety levels among hospitalized preschool children.
