Review Process

Publication Criteria

MARKETIKA: Indonesian Journal of Retail Management, published by Universitas Widya Nusantara, receives more manuscripts than can be published in a single issue. Therefore, in order to be considered for publication, submitted manuscripts must meet the following criteria:

  1. The manuscript provides strong evidence supporting its conclusions.

  2. All empirical methods are welcome, including but not limited to qualitative, quantitative, field-based, laboratory, and mixed-method approaches.

  3. The study offers significant relevance for practitioners in the respective field.

  4. Ideally, the work should also be of interest to researchers in related disciplines.

  5. While the primary focus of the journal is management science, the journal particularly welcomes studies in financial management, human resource management, marketing management, supply chain management, entrepreneurship, digital business, and Islamic business.

  6. Manuscripts should demonstrate strong empirical and theoretical contributions and clearly highlight the importance of the research problem to the field of management. Preference is given to manuscripts that test, extend, or develop solid theoretical frameworks and empirically examine issues that contribute to both current and future management theory and practice.

In general, for a manuscript to be accepted, it must represent a meaningful discussion and advancement in management science and demonstrate a significant contribution to the field.

Review Process of MARKETIKA: Indonesian Journal of Retail Management

All submitted manuscripts will undergo an editorial review and a double-blind peer review process. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal’s criteria or are deemed unsuitable will be rejected without external review, although such decisions may be based on informal consultation with experts in the field. All manuscripts submitted to MARKETIKA: Indonesian Journal of Retail Management are screened for plagiarism using Turnitin. Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 20% will be automatically rejected. Manuscripts that are considered suitable for the journal will then proceed to the formal review process as outlined above.

Manuscripts considered potentially interesting and relevant to our readers will be sent for formal review. Typically, one expert reviewer evaluates each manuscript.

Based on the reviewers’ comments, the editor will make a decision to accept or reject the manuscript under the following possible outcomes:

  1. Accept and publish the manuscript, with or without minor editorial revisions.

  2. Invite the author(s) to revise the manuscript and address specific issues or comments.

  3. Reject the manuscript outright, usually due to lack of originality, insufficient conceptual contribution, technical problems, and/or issues related to interpretation.

Any changes made to the original manuscript will be clearly indicated for the author(s) to review. Authors are expected to carefully check the sentence structure, completeness, and accuracy of the text, references, tables, and graphical content in the revised manuscript. The Editor-in-Chief will make the final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of the manuscript. The Editorial Board reserves the right to edit articles in terms of style, format, and clarity. Manuscripts containing excessive errors in any aspect (such as spelling or punctuation) may be returned to the author(s) for revision before reconsideration or may be rejected outright.

MARKETIKA: Indonesian Journal of Retail Management, published by Universitas Widya Nusantara, considers reviewers’ recommendations regarding the editing of submitted manuscripts. However, if conflicting recommendations arise among reviewers, the editor will make the final decision regarding the appropriate course of action. The editor will weigh the strength of the arguments presented by each reviewer, relevant responses from the author(s), and other information that may not be available to either party before reaching the final publication decision. The primary responsibility of the journal is to its readers and to the wider scientific community. Therefore, in determining the best course of action, the editor must evaluate the validity and significance of each manuscript in comparison with other submissions under consideration.

The journal may consult further with reviewers to obtain additional advice, particularly in cases where authors believe their work has been misunderstood on certain points. Therefore, reviewers are expected to be willing to provide follow-up comments when requested. The editor is aware that reviewers may be reluctant to engage in prolonged correspondence; therefore, the editorial team will limit further consultation to what is necessary to ensure a fair evaluation for the author(s).

When reviewers agree to evaluate a manuscript, the editor considers this as a commitment to review any subsequent revisions if necessary. However, the editor will not resend the manuscript to the reviewers if it appears that the authors have not made a serious effort to address the comments and suggestions provided by the reviewers.

MARKETIKA: Indonesian Journal of Retail Management carefully considers all suggestions, feedback, and critiques provided by reviewers. In particular, the editor is very reluctant to disregard technical criticisms. In cases where a reviewer does not recommend publication, the editor may consult another reviewer to determine whether the same level of critical standards has been applied or whether a different perspective exists. In some situations, the editor may invite an additional reviewer to help resolve disagreements. However, this is generally avoided unless there are specific concerns—such as specialized technical issues—where further expert advice is considered necessary.

Reviewer Selection

The selection of reviewers is a crucial part of the publication process. Therefore, the editor assigns reviewers based on several considerations, including their expertise, reputation, specific recommendations, and previous experience with the reviewer’s performance. In addition, the editor avoids selecting reviewers who are slow to respond, careless in their evaluations, or who fail to provide clear justification for their opinions, whether critical or supportive. The editor will also confirm the availability of potential reviewers before sending the manuscript for review.

Timeliness

MARKETIKA: Indonesian Journal of Retail Management is committed to providing timely responses and clear information regarding editorial decisions and publication. The editors believe that an efficient editorial process is an important service to both authors and the wider scientific community. Therefore, reviewers are encouraged to provide feedback within the agreed review period. If reviewers require more time than initially expected, they are asked to confirm a new date for submitting their review. This allows the editorial team to inform authors about any delays and, if necessary, to seek alternative reviewers.

Anonymity

The editor does not disclose the identity of reviewers to the authors, nor the identity of authors to the reviewers, unless a reviewer explicitly requests to be identified. The editor prefers that reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process and thereafter. Reviewers are required not to reveal their identity to the authors without the permission of the editor.
