PENERAPAN TERAPI STRETCHING PADA LANSIA DENGAN NYERI PUNGGUNG BAWAH: LAPORAN KASUS DI PANTI SOSIAL TRESNA WERDHA MADAGO TENTENA

Abstract

Low back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal problems experienced by older adults and has a significant impact on decreased mobility, independence, and quality of life. Degenerative processes associated with aging lead to reduced muscle and joint elasticity, which can trigger pain. The management of low back pain in older adults does not rely solely on pharmacological therapy, as long-term use carries the risk of adverse effects. Therefore, safe, easy-to-apply, and nursing-based nonpharmacological interventions are needed, one of which is stretching therapy. This paper used a case study design as part of the Final Nursing Scientific Project, applying a gerontic nursing care approach to older adults experiencing low back pain at Tresna Werdha Madago Tentena Social Institution. Nursing care was carried out through the stages of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The main intervention was structured static stretching therapy. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. The evaluation results showed a reduction in the intensity of low back pain after the implementation of stretching therapy. Older adults also demonstrated improvements in comfort, flexibility, and the ability to perform daily activities. The application of stretching therapy in gerontic nursing care is effective in reducing low back pain in older adults.
